###### Multi-Modal Teaching Special Committee, Summer 2021


This summer I participated in a special committee, led by Marika Preziuso and Nita Sturiale, tasked with investigating remote and hybrid pedagogies and best practices. I joined a break out group where we reviewed review MassArt’s existing practices of student engagement and assessment for their accessibility, equity and inclusion. Our work resulted in a set of recommendations sent to the AUC and the creation of a new Multi-Modal Teaching and Learning governance committee being formed, which I will be on this fall.

###### Shared Practices in Teaching+Learning Special Committee  


CHARGE:  
To continue investigating the current College-wide practices and draft best practices and recommendations on College-wide teaching and learning, with additional focus on advising. Goals and areas of special investigation include:


Draft a mission, a vision, and values for online teaching and learning, review curriculum delivery platforms and expectations, review college-wide critique models, review systems of grades and students assessment, centralize faculty and staff professional development, review faculty mentorship, promotion, and tenure structure, and investigate and research the college’s current advising model.


Our work is framed around MassArt's mission for inclusive, just, accessible, and equitable education for all students. Here is an excerpt from the MassArt Mission: We pursue a just compassionate, and equitable learning environment. ###### Climate Resilience Forum |  MassArt 2019 | Workshop with Disobedient Design Course

**RETHINK RECYCLE**  
April 6, 2019   
Student-run augmented reality workshop visualizing ocean pollution


Students in Massachusetts College of Art and Design's Spring 2019 interdisciplinary elective, Disobedient Design, created a collaborative, augmented reality art workshop for a Climate Resilience Forum about the effects of pollution in our underwater ecosystems.

Students took on the issue of recycling, asking the public to rethink the popular slogan: reuse, reduce, recycle; they created letterpress posters to be displayed during the workshop and original 3D trash assets for an web-based augmented reality ocean scene.

**LETTERPRESS POSTERS**   
Students created posters for the workshop on the letterpress; each poster featured an original slogan and many used textures created from printing with plastic trash they found around the school.

**THE WORKSHOP**  
The workshop set up in the Design and Media Center atrium of the college. Passing participants were asked to create original artwork that would become the skins of the 3D trash objects the students had designed and built as part of their coursework.

Is the Art World Ready?

In January 2019 I co-presented a talk entitled “Is the Art World Ready: Best Practices for Augmented Reality in the Art Gallery,” with Sofie Hodara at the MIT Media Lab. In this talk to industry specialists and professionals we shared our successes and failures of working with augmented reality in the art gallery. We shared student examples and discussed specific platforms’ technical advantages and limitations.
