This course, developed from workshops in NY and Milan with collaborator Sofie Hodara, explores the intersection of typography and augmented reality (AR). Students push the boundaries of letterforms, drawing inspiration from projects like Zachary Lieberman’s Weird Type and DIA’s kinetic typography, reimagining how text interacts in 3D space.
Through experimentation and play, students engage with type as dynamic, spatial experiences, utilizing AR to enhance its narrative and visual power. Each semester culminates in an augmented type installation at MassArt’s Skywalk, with this semester's, To Meme or Not to Meme, evolving into a letterpress exhibition on memes, investigating how digital and physical worlds converge to reshape contemporary typographic design.
